Merritt Mauzey was one of the Lone Star Printmakers, and a painter, working in Dallas. He was quite verbally expressive about his art. He wrote Carl Zigrosser long and detailed letters about his work, subject matter and descriptions of specific prints. Included in his letters is biographical information, notes about sales and prices, exhibitions and prizes, his reaction to Zigrosser's book The Artist in America, problems with technique and printing, and comments on the Texas landscape. 1946 letters contain chapters for a proposed book, and later letters refer to other books. Mauzey's letters express the spiritual, philosophical and sentimental basis of his genre scenes of Texas life. Included with his letters ar. E clippings and reproductions of Mauzey's work.
